Notes about Karel I van Bourbon

Karel I van Bourbon was een zoon van Jan I van Bourbon en Maria van Berry. Sinds 1412 was hij al verloofd met Agnes van Bourgondië (1407-1476) , dochter van Jan zonder Vrees, maar huwde pas in 1425 met haar. Tijdens de gevangenschap van zijnvader in Engeland, liet Karel het bestuur tot 1427 over aan zijn moeder en deed zelf voor Karel VII van Frankrijk een aantal opdrachten in Guyenne en Languedoc . Na zijn huwelijk in 1425 stond hij een goede verstandhouding met Bourgondië voor. Op het einde van zijn regering werd hij een trouw hoveling en voerde de kunstzinnige hertog een schitterende hofhouding in Moulins.

Karel en Agnes kregen samen elf kinderen:

Margaretha (1438-1483), in 1472 gehuwd met Filips II van Savoye (1438-1497)
Peter van Beaujeu (1438-1503)
Catharina (1440-1469), in 1463 gehuwd met Adolf van Egmont (1438-1477)
Johanna (1442-1493), dame van Chinon-Chateau, in 1467 gehuwd met Jan IV van Chalon-Arlay, prins van Oranje (1444-1502)
Jacob (1445-1468)
