Notes about Frederik i van Denemarken

Frederik I (Haderslevhus, 7 oktober 1471 – Gottorp, 10 april 1533) was koning van Denemarken en Noorwegen (Koninkrijk Denemarken en Noorwegen) van 1523 tot 1533. Hij was de jongste zoon van de eerste Deense koning uit het Huis Oldenburg, Christiaan I en diens vrouw Dorothea van Brandenburg.

Na de dood van zijn vader in 1481 werd zijn oudere broer Johan koning van Denemarken. In de hertogdommen Sleeswijk en Holstein namen ze echter gezamenlijk de regering over. Bij Frederiks volwassenheid in 1490 werden de beide hertogdommen verdeeld onder de broers, waarbij Frederik het deel Gottorf kreeg.

In 1502 trouwde hij (1) met Anna van Brandenburg. Samen hadden zij twee kinderen:

Christiaan (III) en
Dorothea (1504-1547), gehuwd met Albrecht van Pruisen (1490-1568).
Anna stierf al jong, op 26-jarige leeftijd in 1514.

Vier jaar na het overlijden van Anna trouwde Frederik (2) met Sophia, een dochter van hertog Bogislaw X van Pommeren. Samen hadden zij nog zes kinderen:

Anna
Dorothea
Frederik (bisschop van Hildesheim en Sleeswijk).
In 1523 werd Frederiks neef, Christiaan II, door de edelen gedwongen om af te treden, en Frederik besteeg de troon als Frederik I. Ook de hertogdommen Sleeswijk en Holstein kwamen toen geheel onder zijn bestuur.
