Notes about Ferdinand Maria van Beieren

Ferdinand Maria van Beieren (München, 31 oktober 1636 - Schleißheim, 26 mei 1679) was een zoon van Maximiliaan I van Beieren en Maria Anna van Oostenrijk. Onder het regentschap van zijn moeder volgde hij in 1651 zijn vader op als keurvorst van Beieren. Door zijn terughoudende politiek tegenover Frankrijk kon hij Beieren van een oorlog vrijwaren en door het voeren van een mercantilistische politiek kon hij sneller dan elders de gevolgen van de Dertigjarige Oorlog bedwingen. Via zijn echtgenote Henriëtte Adelheid van Savoye, vond de Italiaanse barok ingang in Beieren, met musici, kunstenaars en architecten.

Op 8 december 1650 trouwde Ferdinand Maria van Beieren met Henriëtte Adelheid van Savoye (1636-1676), dochter van Victor Amadeus I van Savoye. Ze had de volgende kinderen:
Maria Anna Christina Victoria (28 november 1660 – 20 april 1690), zij was de vrouw van Lodewijk van Frankrijk, Le Grand Dauphin, zoon van koning Lodewijk XIV en koningin Maria Theresia
Maximiliaan Emanuel (11 juli 1662 – 26 februari 1726), keurvorst van Beieren na de dood van zijn vader. Trouwde tweemaal, eerst met Maria Antonia van Oostenrijk en daarna met Theresia Kunigunde Sobieska
Louisa Margaretha (18 september 1663 – 10 november 1665)
Lodewijk Amadeus (6 april 1665 – 11 december 1665)
Kajetan Maria Frans (2 mei 1670 – 7 december 1670)
Jozef Clemens (5 december 1671 – 12 november 1723), aartsbisschop van Keulen
Violante Beatrix (23 januari 1673 – 29 mei 1731), gehuwd met Ferdinand de' Medici, erfprins van Toscane.
