Notes about Isabella van Valois
Isabella van Valois (Parijs, 9 november 1389 – Blois, 13 september 1409) was de tweede dochter van Karel VI van Frankrijk en Isabella van Beieren.
Om politieke belangen en als teken van een gesloten vrede werd ze op 31 oktober 1396 op zesjarige leeftijd aan koning Richard II van Engeland, een weduwnaar, uitgehuwelijkt. De jonge, eenzame prinses werd meegevoerd naar Engeland.
Toen Richard II in 1400 in eigen land gevangengezet en vermoord werd, kreeg Isabella van de nieuwe koning, Hendrik IV van Engeland, het bevel om Windsor Castle te verlaten.
Hendrik wist niet wat hij met haar aan moest en besloot dat ze met zijn zoon moest trouwen, de toekomstige koning Hendrik V. Maar Isabella wilde niets te maken hebben met de prins en mocht uiteindelijk terugkeren naar Frankrijk. (Diezelfde Hendrik V zou later wel in het huwelijk treden met de jongste zuster van Isabella, Catharina van Valois (1401-1437)).
Terug in Frankrijk huwde ze in 1406 met Karel van Orléans. Ze stierf in haar 20e levensjaar in het kraambed bij de geboorte van haar eerste kind, dochter Jeanne.
