Notes about Wybrecht van Berchem

Wybrecht [14] VAN/VON BERCHEM, née vers 1512, épousa, en 1532 (contrat
du 20 avril 1532), Corneille VAN LIER (fils de Nicolas VAN LIER, margrave du pays de
Ryen, et de Gertrude NORIS), né probablement (un peu) avant 1520/22, † à
Strasbourg, seigneur de Ranst (Doggenhout) et de Berchem ; Corneille
descendait en ligne directe d’Ide [10] van Berchem, laquelle avait transmis ces
seigneuries aux Lier (voir chap. II). Corneille quitta les Pays-Bas pour Bâle (1544),
dont il reçut la bourgeoisie le 25 août 1544, en même temps que son beau-frère
Joachim van Berchem et que leur mentor David Joris. Quant à Wybrecht, il
semble qu’elle soit demeurée à Berchem avec ses quatre enfants, encore
mineurs. Corneille ne demeura toutefois pas à Bâle et, probablement peu après
1545, quitta la cité pour Strasbourg, où il fut membre du Conseil.
