Geachte heer Bruker,
Ik heb maar weinig informatie over mevrouw Cornelia Bruker (geb 4-6-1890), maar iets meer over haar echtgenoot Adriaan Kropmans. Ik heb mevrouw Bruker (wij noemden haar tante Cor) in de oorlogsjaren regelmatig ontmoet, omdat Adriaan Kropmans een broer is van mijn moeder Petronella Kropmans (geboren 12-2-1900 in Schiedam). Adriaan en Cor woonden in Rotterdam op het Noordereiland in de Leliestraat. Ik herinner tante Cor als een buitengewoon sympathieke vrouw waar we dan ook graag naar toe gingen. Ook ontmoette ik daar haar zoon en 3 van haar dochters. Een dochter heette Riek de middelste Wil en de jongste Riet. Wil was een paar jaar getrouwd toen haar man overleed en zij alleen met een kindje achterbleef.
Ik weet het niet zeker, maar ik dacht dat tante Cor tijdens de 2e wereldoorlog of vlak daarna is overleden.
Van Adriaan weet ik dat dit ook een rustige en sympathieke man was. Hij was huisschilder en ik herinner me nog de verhalen van hem over het inzetten van glas in ramen op moeilijk bereikbare plaatsen.Hij is ook in Schiedam geboren evenals de andere kinderen van het gezin Kropmans. De vader van Adriaan Kropmans was Hendrik Kropmans en zijn moeder Johanna de Jonge. Zij trouwden op 26 februari 1896 in Schiedam.
In de trouwakte staat dat Hendrik Kropmans oud 20 jaar van beroep vleeschhouwer de minderjarige zoon is van Adolph Kropmans (vleeschhouwer) en Johanna Cornelia Spreksel. Johanna de Jonge oud 19 jaar zonder beroep, geboren te Noordgouwe minderjarige dochter van Adriaan de Jonge van beroep brandersknecht en Pieternella de Koning. In diezelfde trouwakte staat ook nog:
" De ouders der verloofden hier tegenwoordig hebben ons verklaard in dit huwelijk toe te stemmen. Voorts verklaarden partijen te erkennen een kind van het vrouwelijk geslacht alhier geboren den vierentwintigsten der vorige maand en ingeschreven in de geboorte registers dezer gemeente, onder de voornamen van Johanna Cornelia als kind van Johanna de Jonge."
Dat laatst genoemde kind (van 24-1-1896) heb ik goed gekend als tante Anna.
Anna was dus de oudste (1896), Adriaan van 1898 en mijn moeder Petronella was van 12-2-1900. Een 4e kind was Riek Kropmans daar weet ik geen geboortedatum van.
Alle kinderen zijn al vroeg (in 1906) opgenomen in het RK weeshuis op de Hoogstraat in Schiedam. Waarschijnlijk zijn de ouders in 1906 overleden aan difterie, omdat in die jaren een grote epidemie was uitgebroken.
Adriaan is, evenals de andere kinderen De Jonge/Kropmans, daar tot zijn 21e gebleven. De nonnen die dat weeshuis bestierden waren streng en er moest hard worden gewerkt.
