She is married to Hero Bratt.
They got married on December 17, 1907 at Holland, MI, she was 24 years old.
Jennie was a good student and was encouraged by her teacher to take the exams for graduation from the 8th grade. She needed books to be purchased by her parents for this but her step-father, Steven Wolters, wouldn't buy them, saying that
physiology books were for doctors and nurses, history books were for professors, and geography books were for travelers. She learned much by listening to the students who had books. Students only went to school when they weren't needed to
work on the farm or in the house. On Monday mornings, Jennie always stayed home to help with the laundry and/or care for the children. In the summer, the church would hold a Christian school. The teacher was Lambertus Tinholt, whose
girlfriend was Miss Schrotenboer. The students used to twit him about approaching marriage. He always responded that that was far too serious a matter to joke about.
