Stierf van ouderdom, op 89 jaar.
Barney woonde eerst in Lakeland (centraal Long Island bij Lake Ronkonkoma), daarna in Bayport, LI, NY, toen in West Sayville en is begraven vanuit Sayville, NY.

Op 8 nov 1852, schreef Barney Arink een brief aan zijn broers en zusters in Nederland. In die tijd is hij ongehuwd.
Hij was kennelijk in pension bij H. Planten en gaf zijn adres als c/o Mr. H. Planten, 224 William Street, Lakeland Station. Planten was voorzitter van de True Netherlands' Society, een immigrantenvereniging op Long Island. In diezelfde tijd was een familielid van hem, J.P. Planten, de Nederlandse Consul in New York (bron: The Dutch Trek to America, uitg. Leyden University Press, 1977).

Obituary in the New York Times of Aug. 11, 1903:
"Aug. 10 - Barner Arink, ninety years old, died in his home in Bayport yesterday. He was well known throughout Long Island. He was born in Holland and came to this country in 1850 [this should be 1855, as indicated by an obituary in the South Side Signal of Sat. Aug. 5, 1903]. He was a cooper by trade, and established a business at Bayport. He manufactured principally oak buckets for wells, and almost every general store on Long Island carried these buckets. His trade was killed, however, by the advent of pumps. It is said, he was the first man to venture raising cranberries on a large scale on Long Island. He made large profits in this line, and very soon others followed him in the culture of the berries."
