Notes about Floris III Graaf van Holland

Graaf van Holland (van 05-08-1157 tot 01-08-1189).
Hij sloot in 1161 een verdrag met de West-Friezen. Hij geraakte wegens de strijd om Zeeland in Vlaamse gevangenschap en sloot in 1167 te Brugge een verdrag met Vlaanderen. Hij steunde in 1176 Frederik I Barbarossa tijdens de slag bij Legnano en ontving zodoende, waarschijnlijk in 1179, de rijkstol te Geervliet van de keizer. Hij bedwong in 1180 de West-Friezen enigermate en nam deel aan de Derde Kruistocht in 1189.
Hij is overleden aan de pest tijdens de Derde Kruistocht en begraven in Tyrus naast de keizer (Frederik I Barbarossa) in de St. Peterskerk.
