Marthinus PRINTZ / PRINS, van Freiburg in Duitsland afkomstig, het in 1715 as soldaat in Tafelbaai voet aan wal gesit. Binne 'n jaar het hy burgerskap verkry en hom as silversmid in Kaapstad gevestig, waar hy op 31 Januarie 1717 met Anna STEYN in die huwelik getree het.

Net een seun is uit hierdie huwelik gebore, want Martinus is ongeveer drie jaar later oorlede. Die seun Johan David, wat in 1717 gebore is, het op 26 Mei 1737 met Rachel Wieret getrou. Op 13 Oktober 1743 het Josina van den Heever sy tweede vrou geword.

Johan David was die vader van dertien kinders, waarvan vyf waarskynlik jonk oorlede is: (1) Anna Rachel (1738), (2) Johannes David (1750), (3) Douw Gerbrand (1754), (4) Pieter Jacobus (1760) en (5) Susanna Hester (1769).

Die ander was:

(7) Josina Jacoba (1746), getroud met Floris Brand.

(12) Josina Hendrina (1762), getroud 30.3.1800 met Richard Fettell, van Deal in Engeland.

(13) Lodewijk August (1764), getroud met Maria Christina Olwagen; 4 kinders.

Sommige van die afstammelinge het hul mettertyd in die Koue Bokkeveld gevestig. In die distrik Ceres woon daar vandag ongerveer twintig families Prins wat hul hoofsaaklik toelê op vrugteboedery en veeteelt. Baie van hulle is suksesvolle en vooraanstaande boere. Die naam word egter ook aangetref onder die geleerde beroepe. Die Prinse is veral evangeliedienaars, onderwysers en sakemanne. Die afstammelinge het in getal taamlik toegeneem en die familie Prins is vandag oral in die Unie bekend.
