"The next question is how Walter [Cromwell] chose the name Smyth. From some papers I found, and partly photocopied, in the London Society of Genealogy, this was the name of his mother, Joan Smyth and of his grandmother, Margaret Smyth who was the aunt of Joan. And Walter's aunt Margaret Cromwell married William Smyth, father of Joan and brother of Margaret Smyth."
