Anne was the daughter of Sir Thomas de Lyttelton and Elizabeth Lyttelton. Her father Sir Thomas was born a Westcote but took the name and position of his wife·Äôs family to fulfill a marriage contract. Her mother Elizabeth was heiress of the Lyttelton estates.
According to Archdall's Peerage of Ireland (1789), the eldest daughter of Elizabeth Littleton was Anne Littleton, who married Thomas Porter of Barston, Warwickshire and was buried there in 1506.
Betham's Baronetage (1801) also has Anne Littleton marrying Thomas Porter of Barston.
Burke's Extinct Baronetcies (1844) follows the same line: Anne Littleton marrying Thomas Porter.
"Thomas Porter, of Barston, co. Warwick (ob. 1499), married Anne (ob. 1506), sister of Sir Thomas Littleton, K.B., the great Lawyer and writer." [Shakespeareana Genealogica (1869), by George Russell French, p. 491]
Anne Littleton married Thomas Porter of Barston, co. Warwick "and lies buried in Barston chapel." [Biographica Britannica (1760)]
(1) Thomas and Elizabeth (Littleton) Wescote had four sons and four daughters: Thomas, Guedo, Edmond, Nicholas, Ann (who m-Thomas Porter, Esquire, of Barston, in Warwickshire), and three others. With the death of the second Baron Thomas de Littleton, the paternal line of his distinguished old family became extinct.
Biography
Thomas Porter, elder brother of William Porter, had an only child, Agnes Porter, who married John Underhill of Hunningham, Warwickshire. Thomas Porter was married to Elizabeth ________ (1430-1458).
"Robert Porter held the manor [of Upper Ettington, Warwickshire] in 1444, and died in 1453, when his eldest son Thomas [Porter] succeeded. . . Upper Ettington, however, passed in tail male to William [Porter], younger son of Robert. Porter, who died in 1480."
"In 1509, Sir Ralph Shirley leased the manor [of Lower Ettington] to John Underhill, originally of Wolverhampton, Staffs., who had married, as her second husband, Agnes, daughter and heir of Thomas Porter of Upper Ettington." This may have been a renewal of an existing lease. [Victoria County History of Warwick, Vol. 5 (1949)] Extensive manorial descent, for manor of Upper Ettington, in this work has a great deal of information on the Porter family. Robert Porter, elder and younger; Fulk Porter; Simon Porter; et al.
"Anne the eldest daughter [of Elizabeth Littleton and her husband, Thomas Littleton (formerly Westcote)], married Thomas Porter of Barston in the county of Warwick, Esq. and was there interred in 1506." [Archdall's PEERAGE OF IRELAND (1789)]
Barston is 9 miles west of Coventry and about half a mile east of Knowle.
More info on the Porter family of Warwickshire in the 15th century would be most welcome.
Trustees for Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, bought Barston manor in 1588. Lord Leicester already owned the adjoining manor of Balsall.[3]
