The cartulary of Lorsch shows a count Robert in Wormsgau on 12 June 795 ["... ego Rubertus comes ...", Codex Lauresh., 2: 236 (#1541)] and in Rheingau on 25 March 804 ["... signum Rutperti comitis, ..." ibid., 1: 318 (#222)] and on 20 February 807 ["... signum Rutperti comitis..." ibid., 1: 319 (#224)].
Glöckner would identify him as Robert "II" and make him the father of Robert "III" (with no direct evidence for the affiliation).
This Robert "II" would then be identified by Glöckner as "probably" the same as the Robert son of Turimbert who appears in the Lorsch cartulary in 769770 ["... ego Turinebertus, & filius meus Ruotpertus, ..." ibid., 1: 285 (#168)].
Although Turimbert does not have a title in the documents in which he appears, and Robert son of Turimbert also appears without a title,
Turincbert was the son of a count Robert "I", whose son Cancor and widow Williswinte founded Lorsch in 764 [see Glöckner (1936), 303-5; Codex Lauresh., 1: 2], which is why Glöckner would identify Turimbert's son as Robert "II" [Gl%C3%B6ckner (1936), 305].
On the other hand, Siegwart does not accept the identification of Robert "II" with Robert son of Turimbert, and instead makes Robert "II" the son of a Robert "I" (different from the Robert "I" of Glöckner), son of count Hnabi who was the maternal grandfather of Hildegard, wife of Charlemagne [Siegwart (1958), 157]....

Robert of Hesbaye is the earliest definitely known ancestor of family known as the Robertians. His son was Robert III of Worms and his grandson was Robert the Strong. Robert of Hesbaye was the great-grandfather of two Frankish kings, Odo and Robert, who ruled in the kingdom of Western Francia. One of Robert of Hesbaye male-line descendants was Hugh Capet, the founder of the French royal dynasty, which ruled France continuously until as late as 1848 (with a brief interregnum caused by the French revolution). A junior line has held the Spanish Crown since 1700; the current monarch Juan Carlos I and his family are direct descendants.
Robert of Hesbaye's father was likely the son of Thuringbert of Worms and Rheingau, and grandson of Robert I, Duke of Neustria (c. 697·Äì764). It is known that the paternal ancestors of Robert I, Duke of Neustria ascended in line as follows: Lambert II, Count of Haspengau (c. 682·Äì741) Chrodobertus II, Count of Haspengau (fl. 650) Lambert I de Haspengau (c. 620·Äì650) Chrodobertus I de Haspengau (c. 600·Äì630) Charibert de Haspengau (c. 555·Äì636) Robert of Hesbaye's mother was possibly Princess Chrotlind, daughter of Theuderic III, Merovingian king of Austrasia. It is also possible that Ingerman and Cancor were brothers of Robert of Hesbaye. Landrada, mother of Saint Chrodegang, archbishop of Metz, is likely to have been his sister. Ermengarde, wife of emperor Louis the Pious was most likely his niece.

Robert II, also spelt Rodbert and Chrodobert (died about 807) was a Frankish nobleman who was count of Worms and of Rheingau and duke of Hesbaye around the year 800. He is the earliest known male-line ancestor of the French royal family called the Capetians (including the Valois and the Bourbons), and of other royal families which ruled in Portugal, Spain, and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
