"In the Testa de Nevill it is written that Warin Bushel, Baron of Penwortham temp. William II (1087), gave two carucates of land in Hocton and Eccleston to Hamo Pincerna, in free marriage with his daughter ; and that, at the date of that record, Adam de Hocton held the same Hocton, namely one carucate of land. Richard, second son of Hamo Pincerna, had Hoghton of the gift of his mother, after his father's death ; and his son, Adam succeeding to tis estates, was styled Adam de Hocton.

Problem Two de Hoghton Pedigree charts, sent by Sir Bernard de Hoghton, disagree. Pedigree I gives Richard as father of Adam; Pedigree II gives William as father; JWH and FM Rice give William
Alternative father is Richard·Äôs brother William : William de Hocton
