Notes
¬â€ Probate: July 01, 1734, North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co., Virginia6
Some conflicting info has him born in 1660 in England, and also in 1643, as a 1661 tax list shows him as being of age to be taxed, so perhaps his father was another Abraham Goad.
Some sites list Richard Goode as his father, but there's no concrete evidence of this and Richard Goode's will in 1719 makes no mention of him.¬â€
Richard Goode and Sarah Parker are not parents given the evidence
This work may be one source, if not the source, for many pedigrees holding that the father of Abraham Goad was named John.¬â€  However John was¬â€ the name of Joanna's father, not identified in Armstrong's work. Her grandfather was Abraham Goad of North Farnham Parish in Richmond County, Virginia. Interestingly, the name Abraham shows up, in her line, as: grandfather, uncle, son, and grandson.
In Volume 1, Armstrong identifies Joanna Goade as the "Baltimore Lady," which she then refutes in Volume IV, completed several years later, saying that the tradition that Valentine Sevier married a Baltimore Lady is a "bit indefinite for genealogical records" and that Valentine and Joanna met years later in Virginia.
That Joanna's name was Goad or Goade and not Good or Goode is demonstrated by the name of John Sevier's daughter, Joanna Goad Sevier, and his granddaughter, Joanna Goad Windle.¬â€  If the name had been Goode, then their names would have reflected it.
Armstrong does not offer any proof in her assertion that Joanna Goad is the granddaughter of John Goode or Goade, an emigrant by way of Barbados.¬â€  Her assertion of a connection to a John Goode or Goade is more than a "bit indefinite for genealogical records."¬â€  She simply offers it as a statement of fact, without any attribution of its source.
Finally, the Sevier Family History, specifically identifies Abraham Goad as the grandfather of Joanna Goad, through the wills documented in the book.
Married:¬â€
about 1692¬â€ in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia to Katherine, daughter of JOHN WILLIAMS and EVE. ¬â€ She was born Abt. 1674 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia4, and died May 23, 1741 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co., VA.5.

. Notes 1. Many websites have claimed that Abraham Goad was a s/o Richard Goode of Essex Co, Va, but there is no evidence for . this zpparently, and in fact the evidence is contrary. Some websites claim his parents were John and Ann Goad, but no . evidence given. This may be a confusion with his grandson Abraham Goad, s/o John and Ann Goad. If the documents . in the early 1660s, quoted above, are correct, then there may be an older Abraham Goad present in early Lancaster Co . who could be his father. Otherwise Abraham was much older than generally estimated and would have been in his 50s . when he married Katherine. Mike Goad cites all the relevant documents on this connection, and his page on that shows . the lack of a connection to Richard Goode: www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mikegoad/doc00013.htm . 2. trees.ancestry.com, owner rschimtt8, claims that Abraham Goad (b 10 May 1665 Rappahannock Co, Va, d 11 Apr 1734 .
