The third Hamon married Agatha de Theray, and had several children, the eldest of whom was a son named after his father. He died about the end of the reign of King John, or the begining of that of Henry III., and his wife Agatha survived him. He is said to have given to his brother John Massey all the land of Moreton. He also confirmed to Robert, son of Waltheof or Fitz Waltheof, all his father's lands in Bredbury, Brinnington, and Etchells, by a very interesting charter, which has been translated as follows : ·Äî
"Hamo de Masci to all his men, whether French or English, clerical or lay, as well in the future as now living, sendeth greeting. Be it known to you all that I have regrantcd to Robert, the son of Waltheof, all the land which Waltheof, his father, held of me and my ancestors for his inheritence, that is to say Hecheles (Etchells) with all that appertains to it, to him and his heirs, holding of me and my heirs freely, quietly, and peaceably, by the service of half a knight's fee. And I [the said] Hamu reserve to my own use, stag, hind and boar in Hulreswood, and the other liberties shall remain to Robert, the son of Waltheof, and his heirs. And I [the said] Hamo, regrant to Robert, the son of Waltheof, Bredburie and Brinintone, with their appurten- ances, as his inheritence to him and his heirs, to hold of me and my heirs, l)y the service of carrying my bed, my arm.'5 or my clothing, whenever the Earl [of Chester] in his own pi'oper person shall go into Wales. And I [the said] Haumo will fully furnish [the said] Robert, the son of Waltheof, and his heirs, with a sumpter beast, and a man and a sack, and we will find estovers [sufficient food] for the man and the sumpter beast aforesaid whilst he is with us in the field, until he shall be returned to the said Robert or his heirs. And Robert, the son of Waltheof, shall pay aid to ransom my body from captivity and detention, and to make my eldest son a knight, and to give my eldest daughter a marriage portion, in consideration of which [the said] Robert has given me a gold ring.

The conditions named in this charter were usual under the feudal system, when the kingdom was really the encampment of a great army and military ideas predominated. While the vassal was thus bound to render service to his lord, and to attend as assessor in his court of justice, the lord in his turn was bound to afford him protection in case of his fief being attacked ; but the defence of each other's person was reciprocal.
It was probably about this period that Roger de Masci, of Hale, son of Geffrey Masci (being possessed of one half the lands in " Bodeon "), sold them unto Agatha de Massey for the sum of £,i 7s. in money, and two robes, one for himself and the other for his wife, " rending therefor yearly one pound of camming seed at the feast of Saint Martin." These lands, Agatha, by another deed, in which she styles herself de Theray, gave to Robert her younger son, whom she made heir thereof by the consent of Hamon, her eldest son.

Hamon de Mascey, lll founded the Abbey Birkett, a Benedictine Monastery, at Birkenhead in the Wirrall Peninsula of Cheshire. It had sixteen Monks and a Prior, and was dedicated to St. Mary and St. James. The Monastery existed until 1536 when it was dissolved by Henry Vlll. Hamon lived during the later part of the reign of King Stephen and during the entire reign of King Henry ll, Plantagenet, which ended in 1189. Hamon lll may have been compelled to forfeit several of the original estates granted to the first Hamon by reason of his participation in the 1172 rebellion against King Henry ll. Hamon lll was in opposition to King Henry ll from his Castle in Ullerwood. Just below Knutsford. His activities were undertaken in conjunction with those of Gervaise Painel, the son in law of Ferrers, the Earl of Derby. It was Gervaise who held the fee of Pownell immediately to the east of Knutsford.,Barrons Hamon lll, Geoffrey de Constantine of Stockport and Richard de Morville at Lauder seemed to have been the leaders of the rebel lords of Cheshire. In 1173 King Henry ll English Barons overcame Hamonll and the other Cheshire Lords. Hamon lll was fined 300 Marks and his companion Gervaise Painel, had his stronghold., Dudley Castle, burned to the ground. From British history online: DUKINFIELD, a township, in the parish of Stockport, union of Ashton-under-Lyne, hundred of Macclesfield, N. division of the county of Chester; adjoining Ashton-under-Lyne, and containing 22,394 inhabitants. This place is supposed to derive its name from the circumstance of the standard of the Danes having been captured here by the victorious Saxons; the figure of a raven or doken was impressed on the Danish flag, and the spot was named, in the Anglo-Saxon dialect, Dockenveldt, or the Field of the Raven. At the earliest period to which records extend, the township was included in the fee of Dunham-Massey: the third Hamon de Massey confirmed Dukinfield to Matthew de Bramhall, about 1190; and the family of Dukinfield appears to have held the place in fee of the Bramhalls, and to have been connected with it for a period exceeding five centuries. The widow of Sir William Dukinfield Daniel (a name assumed by the family) conveyed the estate, in marriage, to the Astleys, about 1767; and the present lord of the manor is Francis Dukinfield P. Astley, Esq.
