The undertenant in 1086 was Fulk [de Beville, Bainvilla], and his descendant Richard de Beville [Beyville], who held a knight's fee in Upton, (fn. 7) died before 1238 leaving three daughters and co-heirs·Äî namely, Alice the wife of David de Malpas otherwise the Bastard, Cecily the wife of Robert de Sibthorpe, and Margery the wife of Geoffrey de Raund. (fn. 8) The pourparty of David and Alice went to their two daughters, Beatrice and Idonea. Beatrice de Malpas married, firstly, William son of Robert Patric and, secondly, Roderic son of Griffin (brother of Llewelyn son of Griffin, prince of Wales), who was holding a sixth of a fee in Upton of the heirs of Robert Patric in 1279, and had lands there in 1284. (fn. 9) Idonea de Malpas married Urian de St. Pierre, whose grandson Urian, son of John de St. Pierre, was holding lands in Upton in 1316. (fn. 10)

comments
His wife is identified on Ormerod's "barons of Malpas" pedigree as Constance, daughter of Owain Kevelioc, prince of Powys. However, as per the notes below, this David is misidentified on the pedigree as David "the bastard" ALS "le Clerc" - yet his two daughters, Beatrix & Idonea, had on partition, 44 Henry lll, [1259/60] 1/4 of the barony of Malpas each, suggesting he was in fact heir to his father.

From THE "MALPAS" FAMILY IN CHESHIRE By Darrell Wolcott ¬â€ ¬â€ ¬â€ ¬â€
2.¬â€  Pedigree from Ormerod's History of Cheshire, vol 2, 598:

Neither David in this pedigree is the man called "le Clerk".¬â€  The man at the top is David of c. 1150 ap William ap David ap William II ap Sir William.¬â€
The first William in the chart was born c. 1180 and did marry Beatrix, daughter of Robert de Montalt.¬â€  This Robert de Montalt was descended from the family of seneschals who served the Earls of Chester, being born c. 1160 and the son of the elder Robert de Montalt, the latter being a son of Ralph fitz Norman.
Their son David was neither "le clerk" nor "the Bastard", both of those being earlier men named David in the Malpas family.¬â€  Since his daughter Beatrix is known to have inherited one-fourth of Malpas, we may safely assume her father was a legitimate heir of his father.

Based on Wollcott, it does not appear she was Constance, daughter of Owain, prince of Powys, as shown in Ormerod's "Barons of Malpas" pedigree. However Wolcott did not discuss the other children ascribed.
