Historians know the de Molins came from Molineaux-sur-Seine, near Rouen, in Normandy where they were guardians of Châ¢teau de Robert-le-Diable also known as Châ¢teau de Moulineaux in the 10th century. The earliest known common ancestor of the family is recorded to be Robert de Moulins of Châ¢teau de Moulineaux in Molineaux-Sur-Seine, follower of William of Normandy.
Although dismissed as false by most genealogists, family folklore states Robert de Molins was the illegitimate son of Peter Abelard and Hâ©loâØse d·ÄôArgenteuil. Abelard was not born until 1079, which makes it impossible for Robert to both be the son of Abelard and to have a son at the Battle of Hastings.
Another story suggests the de Moulins family supplied flour to William the Conqueror's army via a mill on the river Seine near present day Molineaux-sur-Seine, France, prior to the 1066 invasion of England, although no archaeological evidence exists to support the claim. Other sources claim the de Moulin family originally came from Moulins, France and traveled to Normandy where they joined the Norman army and founded the mill on the Seine.
Some genealogists assert that Robert de Moulins was a legendary figure due to lack of sourced evidence of his existence.

Guitmund des Moulin La Marche had one daughter and eight sons , During the time of William the Bastard . William had ask Guitmund to join him in the conquer of Normandy and England , Guitmund refused . Later on Guitmnd's sons conspired to over throw William and in turn William banished them to Italy One son Guilliume and his daughter Albereda stayed behind . The sons that went to Italy created the County of Molise and became the Baron's of said lands . Before they left the family gave their wealth to the Church and William the bastard wanted this so he forced Albereda to marry his cousin Guiliume de Faliase and in turn he became the des Moulin La Marche by title. After acquiring this he soon divorced Albereda and it is said that she lived with the church the rest of her life out of fear and he kept the title. Now remember she also married Tasson. When researching the Molise they state that the famous Knight Roger des Moulin was not of their own but a nephew of Albereda and from the family of Limosin but born in the castle of Moulin in Oren Normandy.
This would suggest a Castilian origin . The Molise family use such on their family shield as well as the Griffon. (Rudolf and Hugo Molise )
The Moline and eventually the Mulianaux ( Moulin) families moved to Calais Belgium and later to Dover England and eventually Kent and up into Ireland north of Dublin ( not all Mullen in Ireland are Irish or Norman for that fact) we are talking a couple of hundred years here but some stayed in Calais . at this point I can only assume it was Albereda's brother Guilliume . Also the Mulianuax came back to France and rebuild the castle of Robert the Devil which Gutmond the monk was in charge of its care which he gave to the king of France this really made William furious .
The next time I pic up the Moulin name is with a Eustace du Moulin . He is said to be a Knight with the Belgian family of Boelyn or Bullen as later pronounced . Two families are mentioned the Mulanaux and Moulin la Guerre . Which later on can be backed up with Queen Eisabeth's statement that Jean Denis Moulin "Mills" ( Bishop of Paris ) was of family. But also a Charles du Moulin ( German Jurist) was also from this line . Now it is mentioned that a Philippe du Moulin is Abraham's line and has the old family crest . At this point I cannot tell if it is the Philippe the clergyman or the one who saved King Charles life during a battle in Italy.. Most would say the later because the census is that Abe came from this Bourbon , Burgundy lines . And we can find quite a few of Moulin way into the 18th century .
Another is from the family of Mulainaux in that Guitmund was a Spanish priest and Emma was a French nun. And the last is Guitmund comes from a line of Viking soldiers that invaded France with Rollo and produced Flour for the invading army. The owner of Bons Moulin (forest) and La Marche just west of the city of Moulin and the owner of the Castle of Moulin in Oren and possible the one in La Marche Moulins en Bourbon in which Duke Charles I of Bourbon resided at . Again I may add the first has the most info from many researchers
