EVDOKIA Ingerina, daughter of INGER [of the Martiniakos family[1049]] (-882, bur Constantinople, Church of the Holy Apostles).¬â€  Symeon Magister records that "Basilium" married "Eudocia Ingerina" in the eleventh year of the reign of Emperor Mikhael III[1050]. She was previously the mistress of Emperor Mikhael III, from whom Empress Theodora obliged her to separate in 855.¬â€  Presumably she was the mistress of Basileios before eventually marrying him.¬â€  The Vita Basilii names "Ingeris filia" and in a later passage "uxor·Ä¶Eudocia"[1051].¬â€  Emperor Konstantinos VII's De Ceremoniis Aul√¶ records that "Basilium et eius uxorem Eudociam et filiam Alexandrum" were buried in the church of the Holy Apostles[1052].¬â€

Eudokia Ingerina

Eudokia was the daughter of Inger. Her mother was of the Martinakoi family and a distant relative of the imperial family, as a close niece of Michael II and a distant niece of emperor Heraclius and his second wife and niece Martina. According to a later alternative reconstruction by Christian Settipani, she would be the daughter of Inger Martinakios, logothete, son of Anastasios Martinakios, a Byzantine noble fl. 817 and officer in 819, deceased after 821, and wife, a sister of emperor Michael II, and grandson of Theophylactos Martinakios, son of Martinakes, grandson of Martinos and great-grandson of Andreas, nephew of empress Martina, niece and second wife of emperor Heraclius.

Eudokia and Basil officially had six children:
·Ä¢Leo VI (19 September 866 ·Äì 11 May 912), who succeeded as emperor and according to the majority view of scholars was a son of Michael III.
·Ä¢Stephen I of Constantinople (November 867 ·Äì 18 May 893), patriarch of Constantinople, who according to the majority view of scholars was a son of Michael III.
·Ä¢Alexander (c. 870 ·Äì 6 June 913), who succeeded as emperor in 912.
·Ä¢Anna (d. 905/12 or after). A nun the convent of St Euphemia, Petron.
·Ä¢Helen (d. 905/12 or after). A nun the convent of St Euphemia, Petron.
·Ä¢Maria (d. 905/12 or after). A nun the convent of St Euphemia, Petron.
