RICHARD DE LEIGH, whose only daugher and heir, AGNES DE LEIGH, married three husbands:
her first was RICHARD DE LYME (son of Hugh de Lymm, lor of the moiety of Lymm in 1358), by whom whe had one son,‰ THOMAS, who assumed the name of Leigh,‰ and obtained the estate of the West Hall, in High Leigh.
By her second husband, William Venables she had JOHN, who also assumed the surname of LEGH, and resided at Booths, in Cheshire. By his first wife he had a son, SIR JOHN DE LEGH, living temp. Edward III., ancestor of the LEGHS, of Booths (see vol.ii. p. 4??) and by his second, Ellen, daughter of Thomas de Corona, of Adlington, he had, inter alios, another son, ROBERT, of Adlington, ancestor of the Leghs, of Adlington, Lyme, Stoneleigh, &c. &c. Sir Peter Legh, the first of Lyme, was beheaded at Chester by order of the Duke of Lancaster, in 1399; and his son and successor Sir Peter Legh, knight banneret, fell at Agincourt. Agnes de Legh wedded, thirdly, William de Hawardyn, by whom she had a son,
RALPH DE HAWARDYN.
The eldest son, THOMAS DE LEIGH, of the West Hall, in High Leigh, was lord of a moiety of Lymme in 1305. He m. Cicely, and had a son, THOMAS; and two daughters, Margary, m. to William, son and heir of Robert Massy, of Tatton, and Agnes, m. to William Daniell, of Lymme. Thomas de Leigh d. 10th Edward II. 1314, and was s. by his son, THOMAS LEIGH, who, by Alice his wife, had a son and successor,

Robert Massy of Tatton died about 1328. 2 Edw. III. V. Sir William Massy of Tatton, knight, 1335. son and heir of Robert, married Margery, daughter of‰ 'Thomas Legh, of High Legh de West Hall.' Lib. C. Fol. 267. num. 12. This was about 1307. And had issue Hugh Massy, son and heir; Oliver Massy of Denfield in Rosthorn, another son, from whom the Massies of Denfield; Richard Massy of Dich-house in Rosthorn, another son; Ellen, a daughter, married Gilbert Hassall, of Hassall in Lancashire, afterwards to Sir William Brereton of Brereton in Cheshire.
Sir William Massy died the 2d May, 1338. 12 Edw. III.
