WILLIAM de Cauntelo, son of WILLIAM de Cauntelo & his wife --- (-1251). "William de Cantelupe son of Walter de Cantelupe" donated rent received "annually from Samson his free man of Leg" to Montacute priory by undated charter, witnessed by "William de Cantelupe my son and heirဦGilbert de Saiဦ"[1211]. Henry III King of England notified the pardon of "Willelmo de Cantilupo junioris" in return for payment of a fine dated [Oct] 1224[1212]. "William de Cantilupo" was granted land "in Caleston which Fulk de Cantilupo his uncle formerly held of the bail of King John" dated 20 Dec 1227[1213]. A charter dated 17 Dec 1243 mandated to "W[illiam] de Cantilupe seisin of all the lands which belonged to Hamo de Valoignes in Irelandဦwith the marriage of Hamo´s heirs"[1214]. The Annals of Tewkesbury record the death in 1251 of လWillelmus de Cantilupo in Cathedra Sancti Petriဝ[1215].

Her parentage and marriage are confirmed by a letter which purports to be from her daughter "Dame Julian Tresgozeဦespouseဦa Sr Robert Tresgoos le Second" to "son frère St Thomas de Cantlow, Euesqueဦde Hereford" which gives a confused version of the family´s lineage: "Sr Hugh de Gornaye" married "la reyne Blanch" [widow of Louis VIII King of France, such a second marriage being impossible chronologically] and had "un filsဦHughဦnostre ayle", who married "la soer le count Renaud de Boloyng", whose daughter "Milsent nostre mere" married "a Count de Euoyse en Normandy" by whom she had one son and one daughter, before marrying "Will de Cantelow nostre pere"[1216]. Henry III King of England granted "maneriis de Mapeldureham et Petrefeld" to "Rogero la Szuche", as granted by King John except for the dower of "Milesentie que fuit uxor comitis Ebroici", dated 14 Mar 1217[1217].

Henry III King of England pardoned "William de Cantilupe", who "married one of the daughters and heirs of Thomas Fitz Anthony", his portion of a fine which Thomas had paid to King John for custody of the land and heir of "John Fitz Thomas with the marriage of the heir" by charter dated 28 Aug 1236[1218]. It is not known whether this charter relates to the same William de Cauntelo.]
William & his wife had four children:

WILLIAM de Cauntelo of Calne, Wiltshire and Aston Cantlow, Warwickshire (-Calstone, Wiltshire 25 Sep 1254, bur Studley Priory, Warwickshire). m (before 15 Feb 1248) EVA de Briouse, daughter of WILLIAM de Briouse & his wife Eva Marshal (-[20/28] Jul 1255). A manuscript which narrates the descents of the founders of Lanthony Abbey names လIsabella, Matildis, Eva et Alianoraဝ as the four daughters of လWillielmus de Brews quartusဝ and his wife လEvam filiam domini Willielmi Mareschalliဝ, adding that Eva married လWillielmo de Cauntelloဝ[1219]. The Chronicle of Tintern Abbey, Monmouthshire names "Matilda, Alianora et Eva" as the three daughters of "Willielmo de Brewes" and his wife "quinta filiaဦWillihelmi MarescalliဦEva", adding that "Eva tertia filia" married "Willielmo de Cantilupo"[1220]. A charter dated 26 May 1250 records the restoration of property, granted to "Margaret Countess of Lincoln", to "William de Vescy and Agnes his wife, Reginald de Moun and Isabel his wife, William de Fortibus and Matilda his wife, Francis de Boun and Sibil his wife, William de Vallibus and Alienor his wife, John de Moun and Joan his wife, Agatha de Ferrers in the king´s custody, Roger de Mortimer and Matilda his wife, and William de Cantilupe and Eva his wife"[1221]. Heiress of Abergavenny. The Annals of Dunstable record that လdomina Eva uxor Willelmi de Cantilupoဝ died လcirca festum Sanctæ Margaretæဝ in 1255[1222]. William & his wife had three children:

Walter de Cantilupe (died 1266) was a medieval Bishop of Worcester.
He came of a family which had risen by devoted service to the crown. His father, William de Cantilupe,[1] and his elder brother are named by Roger of Wendover among the evil counsellors of King John of England, apparently for no better reason than that they were consistently loyal to an unpopular master.
Early career
Walter at first followed in his father's footsteps, entering the service of the Exchequer and acting as an itinerant Justice in the early years of Henry III.[1]
But he also took minor holy orders, and, in 1236, although not yet a deacon, received the see of Worcester. He was elected on 30 August 1236 and was consecrated on 3 May 1237.[2] He was ordained a deacon on 4 April 1237 and a priest on 18 April 1237.[1]
Bishop of Worcester
As Bishop, he identified himself with the party of ecclesiastical reform, which was then led by Edmund Rich and Robert Grosseteste. Like his leaders he was sorely divided between his theoretical belief in the papacy as a divine institution and his instinctive condemnation of the policy which Pope Gregory IX and Pope Innocent IV pursued in their dealings with the English church. At first a court favorite, the Bishop came at length to the belief that the evils of the time arose from the unprincipled alliance of Crown and Papacy.
He raised his voice against Papal demands for money, and after the death of Grosseteste in 1253 was the chief spokesman of the nationalist clergy. At the parliament of Oxford in 1258 he was elected by the popular party as one of their representatives on the committee of twenty-four which undertook to reform the administration; from that time until the outbreak of civil war he was a man of mark in the councils of the baronial party. During the war he sided with Montfort and, through his nephew, Thomas de Cantilupe, who was then Chancellor of Oxford University, brought over the university to the popular side.
The Barons Wars
He was present at the Battle of Lewes and blessed the Montfortians before they joined battle with the army of the King; he entertained Simon de Montfort on the night before the final rout and defeat of the Battle of Evesham.
During Simon's dictatorship, the Bishop appeared only as a mediating influence; in the triumvirate of Electors who controlled the administration, the clergy were represented by the Bishop of Chichester.
Death
Walter de Cantilupe died in the year after Evesham on 12 February 1266.[2] He was respected by all parties, and, though far inferior in versatility and force of will to Grosseteste, fully merits the admiration which his moral character inspired. He is one of the few constitutionalists of his day whom it is impossible to accuse of interested motives.

Henry III King of England granted "ecclesiam de Penred" to "clericum nostrum Walterum de Cantilupo filiumဦWillelmi de Cantilupo" dated 20 Aug 1223[1485]. Bishop of Worcester.
