Notes about Cornelis Aertse Veth

Cornelis Vet is boer en watermolenaar van de zuidelijkste van de twee wipwatermolens aan de boezem van de polder Papendrecht. Hij bedient de molen van 1732 tot 1761, mogelijk ook al eerder. In de jaarrekening van Papendrecht van 1750 staat dat aan Cornelis (molenaar van de Hoge Mole) een maalloon is uitbetaald van 108 gulden voor 18 maanden. Cornelis is bij zijn testament van 11 oktober 1740 eigenaar of erfpachter van boomgaarden, 'griendingen' en dijken in Oud-Alblas, Molenaarsgraaf, Wijngaarden, Ruijbroek, Ottoland en Goudriaan. Het pachtcontract van 'De Nol' (een bij de molen liggend terrein) uit 1740 had in 1764 moeten aflopen, maar is steeds stilzwijgend verlengd (tot in ieder geval 1796). Cornelis' huis spoelt weg bij een overstroming in 1741. Zijn vermogen bedraagt ongeveer 4.000 gulden. Cornelis zou overleden zijn op 27 september 1788, maar een (primaire) bron voor die informatie ken ik niet. Cornelis leeft in ieder geval nog op 4 mei 1773. Op die dag maakt hij (en deze informatie komt uit het werk van Herbert Veth) zijn laatste (van in totaal 5) testament op.

De getuigen bij de doop van de kinderen van Cornelis en Neeltje zijn (oudoom) Jan Cornelisz Vet en (oudtante) Ariaentie Sijbrant v.d. Bergh (1728), (opa) Philippus Brouwer en (tante?) Kunder Philips (1730), (oom) Arij Ariensz Visser en (tante) Neeltje Veth (1735, 1739) en (oom) Teunis Cornelisz Middelkoop en (tante) Jannigje Philips Brouwer (1737). Bij de doop van het kind in 1731 staan geen getuigen vermeld. De getuigen bij de doop van de kinderen van Cornelis en Trijntje zijn: (tante?) Marrigje Jans Verheul (1740), (tante) Neeltje Aarts Veth (1741), Pietertje Plomp (1742), Anna Blom (1743), (oma) Neeltje Pieters Blom (1746), (tante?) Marrigje Verheul (1751), Aart van den Agtersloot en Pietertje Blom (1752) en (tante) Neeltje Veth (1754).

Herbert Veth vermeldt dat Cornelis en Trijntje op 3 april 1740 trouwen en dat Trijntje een dochter is van Jan Verheul uit Berkenwoude. De primaire bron van die informatie ken ik niet. Trijntje Verheul leeft nog op 27 september 1761. Zij is op die dag in Papendrecht getuige bij de doop van haar stiefkleinzoon Kornelis Vet.
