Notes about Antonia Karwatka

The only information I had that belonged solely to her (and was not circumstantial) was her first name and married name Konieczna. And that she might've been from Wschowa (Fraustad), since my grandmother remembers that her grandmother (Antonia's daughter) spoke about having lived there when she was young. That, and two pictures of her, was all I had. Via the Poznan Marriage Project and Basia Archives I've managed to trace her roots back in Poland, found her family, her maiden name and her husband (and his family). Using complimentary archival materials (newspaper, town registers etc.) and books about the history of the towns in which she lived I've managed to recreate at least a good chunk of her story. One discovery led to another. The first time I saw her maiden name on her marriage certificate I actually got really emotional, a deep feeling of 'I've finally found you'. She's the one who actually made it possible that I was born, and in the Netherlands at that. If it hadn't been for her decision to move to Germany, her grandaughter (my great-grandmother) may a) never had been born and b) never moved from Germany to Amsterdam for work. My other ancestors all lived relatively close to one another. The odds of them meeting and marrying were above average. My great-great-great-grandmother making the move to Germany, and her granddaughter to Amsterdam; the odds of that were way, way lower.
