Notes about Alice O'LEARY

Was born aboard the ship "LOCHEE" which sailed from Plymouth in November 1876, arriving at Port Adelaide on 1st February 1877. Mother, Bridget stayed on board several days after arrival, and gave birth to Alice on 8th February 1877.
Not much is known of Alice's childhood, but it is known that she worked as a nursemaid to the children of the shop owner next door to the butcher shop that Charles worked in Gypsum St.
One witness at their wedding was a Mrs Fritch. Alice had to get permission from the magistrate to be married, as her sister Ellen objected to her marriage to Charles, because she wanted Alice to marry a Baptist church minister who was a friend of Ellen and her husband Roy Bitmead.
After marrying Charles, they both went back to Gawler for a few years where some of their earlier children were born. (probably their first four or five).
