Notes about Booker Overton Poteet

In a letter written 26 Jul 1868, from J S Douglass and Ellen Poteet Douglass to James W Harp they mention How sorry we were to hear of the death of our beloved Brother T. J. Poteet and to witness the last of Brother B. O. Poteet. They were dear relative of our, But the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away and we hope their temporal destruction will be their everlasting goal. James W Harps wife was Jane Poteet Harp. This implies that a B O Poteet and a T J Poteet were Ellen Poteet Douglass and Jane Poteet Harps brothers and were dead by 26 Jul 1868. The wording in the letter states that the Douglasses in Arkansas HEARD of the death of T J Poteet from the Harps in Iowa. This implies that T J Poteet lived in Iowa. Also, the Douglasses in Arkansas WITNESSED the death of B O Poteet. This implies that B O Poteet died in Arkansas.

Booker Overton Poteet is not mentioned in the Isaac Gore Bible records in the listing of the births of the children of James Poteet and Edea Gore.

S B J H Poteet (Samuel Brown Jackson Hugh Poteet 1817-1905) and Richard Poteet (1811-1868) appear as securities for Booker Overton Poteet in his 1849 Overton Co TN court case involving the upkeep of his son with Rosa Verble. I am assuming that they must have been close relatives in order to do that.
