Ben notes: Daniel lived in the midst of a period of great civil wars in France. The Fronde Parliamentaire, or the People's Fronde War (a civil war carried out by a public tired of war, who used slings or "frondes" as their main weapon), was fought in 1648-1649, and nearly removed the Cardinal Mazarin from office. However, news of the victory of the Prince of Conde over the Spaniards at the Battle of Lens in late August 1648 gave Mazarin the strength to arrest the rebel leaders, which caused Paris to take to the barricades. The insurrection ended only with the Peace of Westphalia (ending the great Thirty Years War between Catholics and Protestants in Central Europe) and the return of the French Army to Paris.
This was followed by the Fronde des Nobles, when Cardinal Mazarin, in an effort to consolidate his power, arrested the Prince of Conde, Conti, and Longueville. Turenne, coming to the aid of Longueville's sister and his comrade-in-arms Conde, led the rebellion. Using Spanish assistance, Turenne only managed to turn the countryside against himself, and though he won the release of his compatriots, he had eventually to beg the King's forgiveness.
As part of the forgiveness, Turenne led the fight against the Frondeurs, which were now led by his released compatriot, the Prince of Conde. Paris was occupied by rebelling nobles from August to October 1652, but after King Louis XIV restored order among the feuding nobility, the chaotic Fronde de Nobles came to an end in February 1653.
With that as background, the following passage came from "Our Shoemake Roots":
Daniel De La Chaumette was an attorney. The following record is from the Labrunye Family records contain references to the de la Chaumettes:
"On Monday 23 March 1653, at three hours after noon, members of the congregation of Rochechouart sent a request to the pastor of the town of Saint-Cloud to officiate at the weddings of David and Pierre de la Chaumette, brothers, and of Claude de la Chaumette, a cousin. When the people were assembled, Madame the Marquise de Pompadour arrived unexpectedly and with the aid of her servants stopped the ceremonies. The marriages were performed the following Wednesday. The congregation resolved that a man should be sent to Paris immediately to complain about the disruption. They chose Daniel de la Chaumette a lawyer."
Ben notes: this would not be the more famous Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour, but one of her predecessors - Jeanne-Antoinette lived a century later and had a reputation of being a more progressive influence on King Louis XV. The passage actually refers to Jean III, Marquis de Pompadour and Lieutenant-General in Limousin... and apparently also his wife Marie.

The marriage of Daniel and Marie Aucouturier De La Chaumette, on April 30, 1653, cannot be found in the Second Register of Baptisms, Marriages, and Deaths of the Protestant Church of Rochechouart. This couple had to leave Rochechouart and hold their wedding in the community of La Suderie, because of the relentless vindictiveness of Marquise Marie de la Pompadour de Rochechouart. According to the French-language website Mayvth (apparently a collection of Limousin history and other interests): http://mayvth.perso.neuf.fr/philibert.html
Jean III was the first to bear the name of Marquis de Pompadour; like all his ancestors, he was loyal to the crown. His grandfather Louis had taken from the Duke of Levis his finest piece of artillery, which long adorned the terraces of the castle.
At the request of the King of France, he raised an army against the Limousine noble Correze de Julliac, fighting against the Reformist princes who once again threatened Limousin. Supported by royal troops from the Comte de Chavagnac, Jean III defeated the Reformists on a plateau near St-Robert on 13 February 1653 (about a month and 10 days before the incident involving our family).
After this important victory, the Comte de Chavagnac and the Marquis de Pompadour fought over whose victory it was. The two gentlemen assigned their messengers, and saddled up their best couriers to ride and announce the victory at the Court of Versailles. Gabriel du Mas de Payzac, Jean III's captain of cavalry (surely the best rider under Pompadour) proved to be the fastest, and the Marquis was given by the King the merits of his victory. In gratitude, he is later knighted on 31 December 1661.
Jean III de Pompadour is the last man to bear the name of Pompadour; his two sons disappeared without issue. His daughter, Mary Francess, heiress of the Marquis, married Marie-Francois, Marquis de Hautefort. Alas, they too have no offspring and the name of Pompadour finally went extinct in 1726 after eight centuries of prosperity.
From "Our Shoemake Roots": Another de la Chaumette of note during Daniel's time was Theodore de la Chaumette as pastor of Maringues.
[The following account, also from the Labrunye Family records, notes an accostment of Theodore, and what all of the de la Chaumettes as Huguenots were facing under the persecution of the Huguenots. ]
"On Sunday, 19 October 1653, the Protestants assembled as usual at the church for prayers. When Seigneur (Marquis Jean III de) Pompadour learned of this he went directly to the house of the late Jean de la Chaumette where he encountered Theodore de la Chaumette, a minister, and struck him three blows with his sword. Theodore managed to escape with his life. He was pastor at Maringues in Auvergne and it was by chance that he was visiting with his family on this day."
This was his 2nd marriage. He was also a Barrister.
