Left England and arrived in Newbury, MA. in the company of Jhn Woodbridge and the latters maternal uncle the Rev. Thomas Parker in 1634 or1640. They came over on the ship "Mary and John". Those 3 names appear on the monument surmounted by a replica of a sailing ship erected by their descendants in honor of the first settlers on Newbury

Henry Jacques came from Stanton, County of Wilts, England and sailed for Charlestown, Massachusetts on March 24th, 1633 on the Mary and John.

Henry was an accomplished carpenter and was in the employ of John Woodbridge, who was from the same town and on the same ship, to help build a new home in the colonies.

Henry was amongst the first settlers of Newbury, Massachusetts.The ""History of Andover from its Settlement to 1829" by Abiel Abbot, (Flagg and Gould, Andover, 1829) specifies Henry as one of the earliest settlers in the County of Essex, which included Andover and Newbury. Abbot writes about what Henry and other early colonialists encountered with the "Indians and sufferings from them".Many of Henry's friends and neigbors had their homes burned and many were killed by Indians.

The parents of Henry, Sr. is uncertain since his father is identified as Richard Jaques or one of his brothers. Henry's grandparents were Henry Jaques and Maud.

Henry Jacques, Sr. seems to have married 1st Maride Wilts, born about 1622 at Stanton, Whiltshire, England. He married 2nd Anne Knight on 8 Oct 1648 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts.

Ann Knight was born May 5, 1631 in St Mary and Ethelfri, Romsey, England and was christened May 5, 1631 in Ramsey, Hampshire, England. She died 22 Feb. 22, 1704/1705 in Newbury.

Henry's will of 1679 left legacies to his wife Ann and children. The will was proved March 8, 1687. Henry and Ann Knight had 12 children. He was deposed in 1663 about 44 years, about 56 in 1676, and 60 in 1678. He was buried 24 Feb 1686/1687.
