He became a freeman in 1652, moved to Groton, Massachusetts, in 1662, and married Faith in 1664. She was the niece of Henry Dunster, a clergyman and the first president of Harvard College (1640 - !654). He was forced to resign, and the next year tried, convicted, and publicly admonished for opposing the church ordinance of infant baptism.
