He married Martha 1712 and to this union was born twelve children. Martha Fitz Randolph was born 1693 in Woodbridge, Middlesex, New Jersey and died same state 1766. She was the daughter of John Fitz Randolph and Martha Adams or Bingle.l later John Griffith. John (3) Vail was born in 1685 in Westchester Co., N. Y.; came to Woodbridge, N. J., with his parents when about 16 years old; bought land along Green Brook (at the present Plainfield), as did his brother Samuel (3), in about 1732. John (3) Vail was a carpenter and builder and had much to do with the erection of various Quaker Meeting Houses; he was for many years an acceptable preacher among the Friends; was an early missioner for the propagation of that faith; was delegate to various "Conventions" of the sect, if we may use that word for the Quarterly and Yearly Meeting term then employed. John (3) Vail, Q. P., died 27 November, 1774, and is buried in the Friends Burying Ground at Rahway, N. J. He was in addition to his other churchly offices, an Overseer and Deacon and Treasurer, highly respected and beloved by all.03-1784)
