Notes about Lusiano Alfonso Tellez

Memorial services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico for Lusiano Alfonso "Al" Tellez, 76, of Calexico, who died June 22 in El Centro Regional Medical Center.

The Rev. Barry Vineyard of Imperial Valley Catholic Chaplaincy will officiate.

Graveside services with military honors will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico.

Mr. Tellez was born Feb. 26, 1927, in Phoenix and was raised in San Diego. He graduated from San Diego High School in 1945.

According to family, not longer after his graduation, he received a "greeting" card from President Harry S. Truman for excelling in his education.

Mr. Tellez served in the U.S. Army at Luke Field in Phoenix. After his discharge from the Army, he moved to Calexico where he worked at the local Bank of America.

He met Alice Eyraud in Calexico, whom he married on June 1, 1949.

In 1952, Mr. Tellez left Bank of America and began working for Imperial Hardware. In 1961 he decided he would get his real estate license. He became a real estate broker for Griswold Inc. in 1964.

Mr. Tellez stayed at Griswold's for 26 years until his retirement in 1990. He then worked part-time in real estate and part-time for Lorenz Agency selling insurance.

Mr. Tellez was one of the few notary publics in the city of Calexico.

Mr. Tellez married his second wife, Lorenia Montano, in Calexico in 1985.

He served as president and member of the Lions Club. He also was a member of the Elks Club, Navy League, National Notary Association, the Imperial Valley Board of Realtors and the American Legion.

Mr. Tellez also worked on the Calexico Housing Authority board for 16 years, as well as the Calexico Economic Development Commission, the Calexico Chamber of Commerce board and the Imperial Valley Board of Trade.

According to family, Mr. Tellez enjoyed his life and never met a person he didn't like. He was a caring person who loved to laugh and never complained about anything, all the way to the end, according to family, and touched many lives and will be truly missed.

Mr. Tellez was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Tellez, in 1980.

Survivors include his wife, Lorenia Tellez of Calexico; son, Marc Tellez of Calexico; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Michael Groseclose of Tucson; grandchildren, Michael Jr. and David Groseclose, both of Tucson; stepchildren, Lori Cunningham of El Cajon, Julian Montano, Annette Ramirez and Lisa Otis, all of Calexico, Ernie Montano of La Habra; and numerous nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren

The family suggests memorials to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico.
