Vic joined the US Marines in December of 1942. This was the beginning of over 30 years as either an active duty or reserve Marine. Vic, his 2 brothers and a friend helped to form the first Marine reserve unit in Yakima. After WW II Vic worked at Eddy's Bakery. He went to work for the US Postal Service as a carrier and later as a supervisor.

Mary was born to August and Nellie Holm in Yakima, WA on May 3, 1926. She was raised with her two siblings, James Detlef and Lynn in Yakima. She graduated from Yakima High with the class of 1942 1/2. Her brother Detlef was reported Missing At Sea that same year. Mary worked at many grocery stores in the area before she married Vic. Later she worked in Men's Wear at the Bon and the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier.

Vic and Mary were married in the Yakima YWCA Fireside Room on May 21, 1946. They honeymooned hiking, fishing and camping at Rimrock Reservoir. This was beginning of many years of camping and fishing with their children and friends. Rimrock, Clear Lake and Little Naches were favorite camping sites for the family. Both Mary and Vic were active in PTA at Hoover Elementary School, where Mary was awarded the Golden Acorn of which she was very proud. Vic and Boy Scouts built the Haunted House at the annual School carnival for many years.

Later in life Vic and Mary enjoyed time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Throughout the ups and downs of marriage they remained devoted to each other. They were often heard saying "I love you" to each other just before they turned out the light and went to sleep.

Family and friend will meet at Tahoma Cemetery at 11:00 am on May 21st to celebrate Vic and Maryís 66th Wedding Anniversary.
