Amalie groeide op in Friesland en sprak daardoor onder andere Fries. Na haar huwelijk verhuisde ze naar Durlach.

Amalie trouwde in 1727 met Frederik van Baden-Durlach (1703-1732). Uit dit huwelijk werden de volgende kinderen geboren:

* Karel Frederik (1728-1811)

* Willem Lodewijk (1732-1788)

Haar man overleed kort na de geboorte van hun tweede kind. Daarna leed de prinses aan een chronische zenuwziekte.
