In 1832 was Gerrit Jan Gillot eigenaar van de schuur op Ens,sectieB,kadasternr 35, groot 68 vierkante el. In 1832 had hij tevens recht vanopstal voor de schuur en het erf van de Rijks Domeinen,kadasternr.45A,groot 63 vierkante el.Volgens het Patentregister van 1827was Gerrit Jan Gillot aannemer van publieke werken en schipper met eenonoverdekte visschuit, bestemd voor het vervoer van bouwmaterialen,groot 13 ton.Voor de belasting ( accijns op het gemaal)werd hij toenaangeslagen in de tweede klasse, wat erg hoog was.

Aanvankelijk was hij gemeenteraadslid en tevens eerste assessor(wethouder) en plaatsvervangend Burgemeester. Op 22-9-1831 werd hijbenoemd tot Burgemeester van Schokland, als opvolger vanH.A.W.Streithorst. Hij is ook Gemeentesecretaris, schout en commissarisvan politie op Schokland geweest.

Gerrit Jan Gillot werd tegen Paschenbedieninge 1803 aangenomen alslidmaat van de gereformeerde kerk op Ens, waarbij werd vermeld:"Deeze ismet attest vertrokken naar Batavia den 4de April 1803, maar weerteruggekomen en aangenomen".

Gerrit Jan Gillot werd op 3-1-1819 gekozen als diaken voor deNoorderbuurt, en bevestigd op 24-1-1819. Zijn opvolger werd op 6-1-1822gekozen. Hij werd op 12-1-1834 gekozen tot president-ouderling voor deMiddelbuurt, en op 2-2-1834 bevestigd. Zijn opvolger werd op 4-1-1836gekozen.
