William the youngest son took over Kincaple from his uncle Robert Stein but was bankrupted in 1809. He then built the Seggie Distillery at Guardbridge near St Andrews (financed by his uncle John Stein of Kennetpans - at John Stein's death in 1825, William owed John 12,000 pounds). Seggie was taken over by his son John Haig in 1837. John later ran the Cameron Bridge Distillery which was the most important for the Haig 's. Young John took the advice of his cousin Robert Stein of Kilbagie and installed two continuous stills (invented by Robert) at Cameronbridge with huge success. One was in use until 1929.
John's son was Field Marshall, Sir Douglas Haig, Earl Haig also known as "the butcher of the Somme" for his tactics when in charge of the allies in WW1. Sir Douglas was responsible for introducing red poppies on Armistice Day.
