Notes about Oliver Cromwell

Oliver Cromwell war ein englischer Parlamentarier im 17. Jahrhundert. Während der kurzen Zeit der Republik stellte sich Cromwell im englischen Bürgerkrieg gegen König Karl I. Nach dem Sieg wurde dem König der Prozess gemacht. Karl I. wurde wegen Verrat, Hochverrat und Mord zum Tode verurteilt und hingerichtet und England zur Republik erklärt. Daraufhin regierte Cromwell das Commonwealth, lehnte aber die ihm angebotene Königswürde ab. Nach Cromwells Tod verlieh das Parlament Karl II. die Königswürde. Oliver Cromwell galt in der neuen Regierung nun als Königsmörder.

1661, drei Jahre nach Cromwells Tod, wurde seine Leiche ausgegraben und er wurde "hingerichtet". Sein Kopf wurde gegenüber der Westminster Hall auf einer Stange ausgestellt.
