Notes about Dirk Andries Kansen

Dirk Kansen leerde zijn vrouw Sjoerdje kennen omdat zij en haar zus (Aaltje?) in Broek op Langedijk logeerden bij zijn oom Cees Kostelijk. Jacob Kostelijk, een broer van Cees, was vanuit Heerhugowaard geëmigreerd naar Chicago, Cook, Illinois. Hun dochter Aaltje (Alice) had daar Jippe Bennema (broer van Sjoerdje) ontmoet en was inmiddels met hem getrouwd. Om die reden bezochten ze Aaltjes Oom Cees. Later is Dirk met zijn zwager Willem de Groot per fiets naar Hallum afgereisd waar Sjoerdje woonde voor een nadere kennismaking.

Dirk Kansen was zeer actief zowel op maatschappelijk (2 perioden voor de ARP in de gemeenteraard van Langedijk) als op kerkelijk terrein (jarenlang ouderling waaronder voorzitter van de kerkeraad), voorzanger tijdens de diensten en medeoprichter van het Broeker mannenkoor.
