Notes about Abraham Huigen

Abraham (Bram) Huigen werkte eerst als schippersknecht en schipper in Zaandam in de houthaven en later als houtwerker bij Houthandel Dekker NV, die in 1955 ophield te bestaan. Opa Bram was echter al ca 1936 ontslagen vanwege een onduidelijke beschuldiging dat hij zou staken. Vanuit zijn strenge christelijke levensovertuiging weigerde hij juist te staken en was gedurende de grote Houtstaking van 1929 een der weinige werkwilligen uit Zaandam. Waarschijnlijk heeft eerder zijn weigering om niet op zondag te willen werken een rol gespeeld. Vanaf die tijd gaat Bram het land in om te colporteren met oude schrijvers en andere streng gereformeerde christelijke lectuur en tractaatjes met bekeringsgeschiedenissen. Het is nog niet duidelijk of hij dat deed voor eigen rekening of in dienst van een boekhandel of antiquariaat (Den Hertog te Houten of Dordrecht?). Hij reisde met zijn koffertje boeken lopend en per fiets naar Waddinxveen, Rotterdam, maar ook Bunschoten Spakenburg, de Veluwe en Staphorst en trad waarschijnlijk ook op als 'vrije prediker'. vermoedelijk met enig succes in verschillende conventikels op de veluwe en in Staphorst. Hij was vaak weken en maanden onderweg.

Wij zouden graag willen weten of iemand in genoemde plaatsen nog iets weet ,zich herinnert of gehoord heeft over zijn werkzaamheden als boekverkoper en prediker.
