Rochus Schelling was bouwman aan de Oranjeweg te Zuid-Beijerland op het ouderlijk bedrijf de hoeve "Meerderzicht" (in de volksmond "De Pannestee"aan de Boendersweg). Hij werd later opgevolgd door zijn zoons Willem, Pieter Jan, Rochus jr. en Klaas Schelling. De hoeve, met ruim 61 hectare, werd in maart 1917 verkocht aan de huurder Rochus Schelling.
