Notes about Jan KWAKMAN


Vermoedelijk omstreeks 1878 verdronken in de Zuiderzee en niet meer teruggevonden.
Overlijden is niet terug te vinden in de officiële documenten van de gemeente Edam.
In de huwelijksbijlagen van het huwelijk van zijn dochter Maretje Kwakman in 1886 staat vermeld dat Jan Kwakman reeds overleden is.
Hij moet zijn overleden tussen 1878 (geboorte van dochter Aaltje Kwakman) en 1886 (huwelijk van dochter Maretje Kwakman).

Het was nacht en de botters voeren nog geen lichten. En zo kon het zijn dat Jan de Vos te laat Joppie Tol zag en achter deze botter moest langs varen. Dit mislukte doordat de kluiverstok van Jan de Vos in de smeertalie van Job Tol pikte. (het touw waarmee het zeil gereefd wordt.) De kluiverstok brak niet en ook de smeertalie niet. Maar wel het touw waarmee het eind van de kluiverstok vastzit bij de waterbolk. Hierdoor schoot de kluiverstok achteruit, de botter in en maaide Jan Vos en zijn zoon overboord. Jan probeerde zijn 14 jarige zoon Jacob (13-12-1864/1878) te redden. Echter beiden verdronken.
