PERSYN {Het Geslagt van) was van ouds zeer vermaard in de Nederlandsche Geschiedenis, en eigenaar van een aanzienlijk gedeelte van het Noorderkwartier van Holland bij den naam van Waterland bekend. Volgens eene aloude overlevering zou de Stamvader van dit Geslagt , omtrent het jaar 900, uit Griekenland afkomstig, herwaarts zijn gekoomen met LUTGARD, Gemaalinne van Graave Arnoud van Hoüand.
De eerste, welken men van dit Geslagt, met zekerheid, gemeld vindt, was Jan Persyn, Heer van Waterland. Hij leefde omtrent het Jaar 1080, en hadt eenea Zoon, Dirk Persyn, Ridder, Heer van Waterland, vermeld onder de Baander heeren van Holland, in den Jaare 1143 of nevens andere HoUandscbe Edelen, getuige van het Verdrag, in den Jaare1168, tusschen Floris den Hl, Graaf van Holland en Philips van Vlaanderen geslooten.
