Barsbeek
Het buurtschap Barsbeek (vroeger Barspick) is gelegen tussen Vollenhove en Zwartsluis en is √©âˆš©n van de oudste nederzettingen van het Ambt Vollenhove (een ambt is de voorloper van een gemeente). Bewoning en ontginning heeft plaatsgevonden vanaf ca. de 11e eeuw. Pas ruim een eeuw later kreeg de bisschop van Utrecht ook hier zeggenschap en grondbezit.

Vroeger omvatte Barsbeek ook het huidige Heetveld. Dat werd toen nog Barsbeker heide genoemd. Ook hebben Kadoelen, Wendel en Op Zwol (later St. Jansklooster) tot het zogenaamde Barsbeker kluft (een kluft was een eenheid onder welke de hele afwatering en waterbescherming viel) behoort.

Er zijn al vroeg akten terug te vinden, zoals het Dijkrecht uit 1363. Hierop wordt de waterhuishouding genoemd met daarop reeds namen als Lange Wetering en Barsbeker Zijlsloot.

De bisschop van Utrecht heeft vanaf ca. 1200 de Hof te Barspick in eigendom gehad. Deze is in de loop van de 16e eeuw in handen van het gewest Overijssel gekomen en is dat gebleven tot 1796.
