Notes about Julius Aloijsius Josephus de Maat

Julius heeft in vele opzichten een goed en gelukkig leven mogen leiden. Geboren op de boerderij aan de langeweg te Ossenisse heeft hij daar zijn hele leven gewerkt en gewoond als landbouwer en pluimveehouder, daar leefde hij met zijn gezin,voor wie hij alles over had. Hij was een wat stille man, maar wel een man met gezag. En "afspraak" is "afspraak" was zij devies. Maar ook verdriet en tegenslagen heeft hij gekend. Na een ongeval en een daarop volgende maandenlange onzekerheid overleed op 8 jarige leeftijd een van zijn zonen. Dat afscheid is hem zwaar gevallen. Ook openbaarde zich in 1979 een ziekte, waaraan hij uiteindelijk zou overlijden. In die jaren ging zijn gezondheidstoestand steeds verder achteruit. Moedig heeft hij ook de teleurstelling gedragen, een klacht kwam er nooit over zijn lippen. En vooral in die periode dat hij totaal aan huis gebonden was keek hij telkens weer uit naar het bezoek van zijn kinderen en kleinkinderen. Erg heeft hij genoten van een reis naar Australië die hij in 1983 nog kon maken met zijn vrouw, in verband met familiebezoek. Hij was onder de indruk van dat land, van het pionierswerk dat daar is verricht door velen en van de leefgewoonten. Aan die reis behield hij heel mooie herinneringen. Enkele weken voor zijn overlijden verhuisde hij met zijn vrouw naar Kloosterzande. Hij had daarin volmondig ingestemd, omdat dit voor zijn vrouw het allerbeste was en ook zelf voelde hij zich daar al vlug thuis. Helaas mocht hij niet lang van die woning genieten. Kort daarop is hij overleden in streekziekenhuis 'de Honte".
Hij is begraven op het parochiekerkhof te Kloosterzande.
