Notes about Jacob Pietersz Verberne

Hij is gedoopt op 16-03-1739; aan het einde van z'n 11-e cq begin van z'n 12-de levensjaar verloor hij zijn vader en twee jaar later ook zijn moeder nog geen 14 jaar oud. Er zijn geen gegevens of aanwijzingen bewaard gebleven hoe het met de opvoeding der wezen is gegaan; dezelfde vragen als bij hun vader rijzen hier: zijn ze in het weeshuis opgevoed of zijn ze in gezinsverband opgenomen geweest ? De beide oudste zonen gingen varen, Crelis werd kuiper/timmerman en Marijtje trouwde. Voor de stamboom is de tweede zoon Jan van belang maar ook de 1-e zoon Jacob heeft er iets mee te maken.

Deze Jacob werd zeeman, zoals reeds is gezegd: in 1767 was hij "kapitein" op het schip "de Catharina"; dit blijkt uit een notitie in het "Impostenboek op het overlijden" van Texel, waarin het volgende staat genoteerd: "27-1-1767: 't Lijk van een matroos van 't schip "de Catharina" gevoert bij Capitein Jacob Verberne leggende op de reede van Texel aan 't Oude Schil overleden (de matroos)......... pro deo". Blijkens een akte van 01-10-1778 trad een Hendrik Sprong op voor zijn schoonzoon Jacob Pieters Verberne wegens "uitlandigheid". Vermoedelijk is Jacob Pieterse weggebleven op zee; zijn overlijden is nergens gevonden. Dit moet zijn gebeurd tussen 08-12-1790 (toen hij op Texel doopgetuige was) en 17-07-1795 wanneer zijn echtgenote "de weduwe Jacob Pieters Verberne" wordt genoemd. Deze Jacob Pieters Verberne had een zoon Pieter Jacobs (ged 25-12-1773); op 09-05-1794 trouwde deze met Vrouwtje Lattjes (uit een Texels geslacht). Deze Pieter is evenals zijn vader vermoedelijk op zee verongelukt. Om de kost voor haar gezin te verdienen ging ze uit werken. Zij werd zwanger en kreeg een onecht kind, dat zij Louise van Scharenberg liet noemen. Deze Louise van Scharenberg zou de grootmoeder van oa Prof. Dr. Louis Verberne worden.
