Op maandag 8 december 1941 berichtte HET VADERLAND het volgende: "ENGELSCHE VLIEGTUIGEN VIELEN TREILER AAN - Een dode en twee zwaargewonden op de Vlaardingen 80 --- Vrijdagmiddag (5/12/1941) werd de IJmuidensche bevolking wederom opgeschrikt. De stoomtrawler, Vlaardingen 80, de "GEZINA" liep met de vlag halfstok de haven binnen. Reeds van verre was te zien, dat het schip doorzeefd was met kogels. En de vraag of er doden waren te betreuren, moest helaas bevestigend worden beantwoord. Schipper Van Loosen had bij het uitoefenen van zijn plicht het leven gelaten en de stoker en de kok waren zwaar gewond. Vlak onder de kust, bijna in het zicht van de haven, was het vaartuig door twee Engelsche vliegtuigen aangevallen, toen het op weg was naar de thuishaven. De commandobrug werd onder vuur genomen, waarbij de schipper het leven verloor, en de beide anderen zwaar werden gewond. Tot viermaal toe streken de vliegtuigen over het onbewapende visschersschip en een regen van kogels daalden op het vaartuig neer. Nadat blijkbaar alle ammunitie verschoten was, verdwenen de "luchthelden" uit het gezicht. Het afgrijzen over den laffen en volkomen doelloozen aanval is onder de IJmuidensche bevolking zeer groot, aldus het A.N.P."
