The first watermill was built on this site in 1818 by Johannes Frederick Dreyer. His widow, Maria Barendina Bekker, inherited all his properties the following year. Young Jacob Letterstedt became her Farm manager and they married on 14 August 1822. The farm became known as Mariendahl.
