Pierre LABUSCAIGNE (geb. ongeveer 1675) is afkomstig uit diestad Bergerac aan die Dordogne Rivier in Frankryk, en nie uit die dorpie Pontacq in die Pireneeë nie, soos tot onlangs tradisioneel aangeneem was. Na sy vlug uit Frankryk na Nederland in 1696, het Pierre en sy gesin ‘n geruime tyd in Enkhuizen gewoon, waar hy as kleremaker werksaam was. Sy vrou, Maria Anna Bacot, is gebore in Leeuwarden, Friesland, dogter van ‘n Hugenootse vader en ‘n Nederlandse moeder.


Op soek na ‘n beter toekoms, het hy in 1710 na die Kaap de Goede Hoop vertrek as trommelaar in diens van die VOC (HOIK) op die skip Verburg. Sy vrou en drie kinders sou eers etlike jare later, in 1717, by hom in die Kaap aansluit.


Pierre het vir 'n aantal jare as plaasonderwyser en landboukneg gewerk (1711-1717). Daarna het hy allerlei tydelike betrekkinge gehad, bv. vier jaar as Koster van Drakenstein en twee jaar as Bode, totdat hy in 1723 ’n stukkie grond toegewys gekry het en gaan boer het: op Pontac, Paarl.
