Johann Herbst (Herfst) was van Bremen. Hy het van 1686 gewerk by die VOC se veepos by die Hottentots Holland. Herbst het "n burger geword in 1690. Hy het die plaas Opperherfst, Bovlei, Wellington vanaf 28 Februarie 1699 besit. Hy het hierdie plaas op 13 April 1724 na sy skoonseun Johannes Vosloo oorgedra.

Johann Herbsten Cecilia van Angola het "n kind 
Angenietie gedoop 19 Aug 1985 (getuie was Margarita van de Caep). Hoge en SAG maak die fout om haar Johannes te noem.

Johann Herbst en Lijsbet Sanders (ook bekend as Lijsbeth van de Kaap) het as man en vrou saam gelewe. Lijsbet Sanders se moeder was Lijsbet van Angola (volgens Mansell Upham).
Volgens Karel Schoeman was haar ouers - Abraham en Pladoor van Guinea.

Lijsbet Sanders was voorheen "n slaaf van Louis van Bengale, en hy het haar vryheid gegee. Kyk ook onder Louis van Bengale.

Daar is ook "n derde opsie van wie haar vader kon gewees het, Louis van Bengale (Schoeman). Hulle het drie dogters gehad Elisabet, Sibilla en Johanna. "n Aantal van Clara se meer bekende nasate was pres. Paul Kruger, genl. Louis Botha, die Voortrekkerleier Andries Hendrik Potgieter en die bekende genl. Koos de La Rey.

b2 Gerbrecht gedoop 1 Okt 1702, X 2 Jan 1718 met Johannes Vosloo (Hulle het agt kinders gehad)

Johann Herbst sterwe na 1728. Lysbeth Sanders sterwe toe sy ouer as tagtig was in 1742/43.
