Notes about Andreas Bester SV/PROG

Andreas BESTER was van Maagdeburg en het op 5 November 1712 met die skip, Beverwyk, aan die Kaap arriveer. Tussen 14 Maart 1714 en 14 Maart 1716 dien hy as boerekneg vir Matthys van den Berg. Vanag 1 Februarie 1718 is hy "n kneg vir Hendrik Moller en in 1721 ontvang hy sy burgerskap. Hy trou op 13 Februarie 1724 met Anna BOK, dogter van Christiaan Bok en die voormalige slavin, Anna Groothenning van Bengale. Anna is op 1 Januarie 1713 saam met haar moeder gedoop.

Bester koop in 1729 die plaas Hooggelegen wat uit 60,032 morgen bestaan het , van Adriaan Greef. Andries en Anna kry op 6 Mei 1737 weiregte vir die plaas "aan die Diepe Rivier in den Draaij". Andreas is op 30 Oktober 1752 oorlede. Anna was tydens sy dood om en by 43 jaar oud en het met die boerdery voortgegaan. In 1760 doen sy aansoek vir die leningplase Modderfontein en Draaihoek, albei in die Koeberge geleë.

In 1729-1732 word daar in dokumente vermeld dat die Kompanie ingelig is dat Andreashom oor Jochem Scholtz en "n dogtertjie, Maria Roos (wat die buite-egtelike kind van die vrou van Jochem Scholtz was), ontferm het. Jochem Scholtz se vrou was indertyd oorlede en aangesien Scholtz "nkreupele en boonop arm was, kon hy nie behoorlik na die kind omsien nie. Die onbaatsugtige Bester het dus letterlik tot Scholtz en die dogtertjie (sy grootmaakkind) se redding gekom.
