Notes about Jacob Naude SV/PROG 1

Jacob NAUDÉ, the 6th. of 7 children of Philipp Naudé and Anne Isnard, of French Huguenot descent, was born in Berlin, Germany on 20 August 1696.

He left the Netherlands as a naval cadet (adelborst) on board the fluyt 'Abbekerk' from Texel on 23 January 1718 arriving at the Cape of Good Hope on 19 May 1718. From 1 June 1718 to 2 May 1722 he was hired out by the D.E.I.C as a schoolmaster to 3 different Huguenot families. During this period he became a member of the Drakenstein Dutch Reformed Church.

On 7 May 1722 he married Susanne TAILLEFERT, widow of Pierre Cronier (Cronjé), formerly widow of Jean Gardé. In 1723 Jacob applied to become a free burgher, and in July of that year christened his only child, a son Jacob.

Susanne died on 13 February 1724 and Jacob on 1 March 1740.
