Notes about Michiel du Plooy


Burger Stellenbosch. Michiel was 'n burger van Stellenbosch wat op 29-jarige ouderdom die binneland ingetrek het. In die jaar 1746 "Werd door deesen gepermitteerd aan een lande bouwer Michiel de Plooÿ omme voor den tyd van een geheele jaar met zijn vee te mogen gaan leggen en weyden aan de mond van den harte beeste revier geleegen aan de breede revier" [KAB Stellenbosch Nr 123]. Hierdie plek is naby Worcester geleë, omtrent 5 km Wes van die dorp gaan die pad na Kaapstad oor die Hartebeesrivier. Die naam van die gebied is nog De Mond. 

Hierdie toestemming is gereeld hernu tot die jaar 1766. Hy het in 1746 1 slaaf, 1 perd, 22beeste en 120 skape gehad. Waarskynlik het De Mond sy eiendom geword. Die plaas De Mond het in die gebiedsafdeling van Tulbach (Land van Waveren) geval en al sy kinders is in die kerk aldaar gedoop.Die kerk, waaraan later aangebou is, word nou as 'n museum gebruik.' 

Ook heeft men op het ingediende versoekschrift [C. 238 Requesten en Nominatiën, 1737 - 1738, ongedateer, pp 157 - 158 1738], van den burger Michiel plooij, staande onder voogdije van weesmeesteren deeser plaatse, het goed getuijgenis dat door deselve van hem gegeeven word ingesien zijnde, [C. 238 Requesten en Nominatiën : getuigskrif, 24.10.1737 p 159] goedgevonden het versogte veniam aetatis aan gemelte plooij te accordeeren. [Resolutiën Raad van Politie, Dinsdag, 5.11.1737, voormiddags. Reference code : C. 104, pp 90 - 104]
